A free value-added member benefit introduced in 2023, CIRI again offered set of training sessions conducted by FMI, a leading consulting firm serving construction and related industries. For Winter 2025, FMI created a customized two-day field leadership curriculum. The initial session took place on January 15 at Hyatt Place Warwick/Providence Airport, with a followup session on January 16 at Crowne Plaza Providence Airport Warwick.
“In 2023 and 2024, over 120 management-level employees benefited from the FMI executive training that CIRI sponsored,” says Mike D’Ambra, CIRI president. “This year’s offering was geared toward superintendents, lead foremen, foremen, crew leaders and field construction managers. We’ll continue to offer trainings like these that are beneficial to our membership.”
The two-day Field Leadership Bootcamp course, which attracted 60 attendees, was presented by FMI principal/partner Gregg Schoppman. The four key topics were: Leadership Principles | Communications Foundations | Operations Toolbox | Managing Time & How To Get Things Done.

FMI coursebook customized for CIRI sessions
Every attendee was given a 189-page printed and bound coursebook — covering all four topics — to use as a follow-along guide, notes repository and post-session reference. Extra coursebooks, currently stored at the CIRI office, are available to members on a first come, first served basis.
In a post-program survey, the attendees gave the FMI courses high marks across multiple criteria. Reasons cited included the quality of the overall content, the use of relevant real-world examples, the level of audience interaction, and how the course met its stated learning objectives. The presenter earned high scores for his command of the topics, the ability to hold the attendees’ interest, effective response to questions — and his ability to impart a great deal of knowledge at a comfortable learning pace.
