Since 1975, CIRI has continually looked for ways to anticipate and serve the evolving needs of its member companies. Including advocacy, support and training initiatives that help maximize revenues, performance and profitability.
Working to ensure dependable funding
Funding is the lifeblood of heavy and highway construction. CIRI keeps a vigilant eye on key funding sources for roads and bridges — in order to keep our member companies working across shifting business cycles.
Active advocacy at the RI State House
Every year, we monitor all bills submitted to the General Assembly — making our views known on issues of importance. CIRI also supports candidates whose views are beneficial to our members and the industry.
Collaborating with ARTBA on national issues
CIRI is an active member of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, which monitors federal legislation and advocates nationally. Keeping us current on the latest developments, research & reports.
Free advanced FMI training programs
CIRI enlists FMI, a leading consulting firm for construction and related industries, to conduct high-level training courses during February and March. Attendance and participation is free for all CIRI members.
Free safety and compliance training
Our annual offering includes courses to help employees earn/renew key certifications. Assistance in complying with Federal and State regulations. And seminars on safety topics such as underground digging.
A voice in statewide planning discussions
Our executive director has a seat on the RI Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC). This enables CIRI to interact with key local/state officials, agencies and interest groups — keeping us in the statewide planning loop.
Exploring new technology and methods
Companies today need to embrace new technologies and tools to make operations more efficient and profitable. Our Technology & Innovation (T&I) Committee helps members to leverage the most promising innovations.
Labor relations with key RI unions
CIRI works with the state’s various trade unions to establish standardized contracts for our member companies to utilize. Covering detailed facets of employment such as compensation, pensions, PTO and safety provisions.
The CIRI Political Action Committee:
A unified and active voice for the industry.
Supported by donations from our members, the CIRI Political Action Committee (PAC) is a relentless advocate for companies across all facets of heavy and highway construction. It is a broad-based, year-round effort to promote positive relationships with federal, state and local government officials.
One important component we stress is funding. Our intent isn’t to just keep levels at status quo. We advocate for continued increases to offset the effects of inflation and unexpected challenges. This also alleviates the need for public bond-issue campaigns which cost the industry hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Equally important are our efforts in the RI General Assembly. Backing legislation that would positively affect our work. Voicing opposition to legislation that would be detrimental. While supporting candidates and elected officials whose views have a positive impact on our industry and the RI economy.
